Desas Desus Proklamasi

This exhibition engages with the reflection on spatial practices that have been carried out by the Proclamation Manuscript Formulation Museum in Jakarta. Since 1927, the occupants of the building have been changing, starting from the British Consulate General, Admiral Tadashi Maeda, the British Ambassador, the National Library, and finally becoming the Museum for the Formulation of the Proclamation Manuscript. The imagination about building thus become plural, always changing according to the dynamics faced by its occupants. Although some spaces are labelled as one entity by the museum, it can not be denied that the shadow of uncertain historical witness remains haunting the arrangement of the spaces and objects inside.

We activated different version of memories by eliciting the archive
collections of the Proclamation Manuscript Museum and sewing the narrative through field researches to other historical places of the proclamation, such as Rengasdengklok, Gedung Pola and Menteng area. The findings then be critically re-examined and re-imagined through exhibitions & public programs that involve wider audiences, from kids, high-school students, to adults. Three artists are invited to conduct series of intervention and activities to the exhibition space, using different mediums such as radio drama, performative discussion and time travelling journey games.
